Today American Express Publishing sent out an email blast indicating it is planning to re-launch Travel + Leisure Golf as an online publication. The print edition closed in March after a ten-year run. Here is the link to the pre-publication subscription offer, which includes a $300 credit at Pinehurst Resort that runs through November 10, 2010. Not a bad pot sweetener for a $1/month online subscription. I’m certainly a biased observer, but I do think it’s clear the closure of the magazine left a significant void in golf, so it will be interesting to see if the company can revive a solid brand in a new medium.
A couple of posters on golfclubatlas have rightly asked fulfillment questions relating to the status of former print edition subscribers. I don’t know the mechanics involved, though I personally hope those subscriptions will be honored by a roll-in to the digital version. I’ll be sure to post an update as I learn more details.
Are you writing or an editor?
Online is much more competitive than print.
My twitter feed has more directed (to me) news than they could produce.
It isn’t good value for me.
The old print version was nice in that I could see a few nice pictures, a little in depth, and I didn’t have to be sitting at my desk.
Cheers
Mike,
I suppose you could say I’m in wait-and-see mode. Regarding the second part of your comment, T+L Golf in print was a bi-monthly and as such was not primarily concerned with news. The magazine was much more about highlighting the work of some of the best writers in the game and combining that with first-rate photography and art direction.
I’m intrigued by the company’s intention to get the online product running monthly. It still won’t compete with your twitter feed in that cycle, but it does have the potential to run more time-sensitive material than its previous incarnation.
