Vroom!: Rickie Fowler Signs With Puma, Receives Big Wheel

tumblr_kqsmpa5LBQ1qzw1gwPuma recently announced the signing of newly-minted pro Rickie Fowler. Though Geoff Ogilvy remains the company’s mainstay, having earned their apparel plenty of camera time over the years, the former Oklahoma State and Walker Cup star will definitely raise the company’s profile as he competes on the Nationwide Tour (and beyond, it is assumed). According to the company press release, “Rickie’s style on and off the course fits the brand to a tee —’“Look Better, Feel Better, Play Better.’””

Amazing to think how much a fellow’s life can change in just a month–to go from snarfing snapper soup at Merion with Buddy Marucci to pedaling this bad boy (pictured left) around the Boise Open.

The gifting of the “Little Red Car”, however, does suggest that the trend of out-of-control signing bonuses, so pervasive in other sports, is beginning to creep into golf. It wasn’t that long ago that Michelle Wie received little more than an EASY-BAKE oven upon signing with Nike, while Polo only gave Morgan Pressel a bunch of “gently used” My Little Ponies.

When reached for comment on his new toy, Fowler replied: “Vroom! Vrooooom!”

Correction: Due to a mix-up in the photo department, the Rickie Fowler depicted on the site’s home page is not Rickie Fowler. We regret the error.
